Schio Print E-mail

Located just at the base of the small Dolomites, Schio stands out as one of the most dynamic and lively towns of the Upper Vicenza region. Its development into a city was strictly due to its wool industry. This can still be seen when walking through the city which is a real and proper industrial archaeological museum. Its historical centre with its Venetian style is a striking contrast with the neoclassic Cathedral of San Pietro and the castle’s tower. Other important touristic sights are the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, the Church of San Francesco (1424 – 1522), the Church of Santa Maria in Valle and the Church of San Martino, which present a series of frescoes by the XV century school of Rimini. Many of the buildings testify to the city’s wealth and liveliness also in the past: the Civic Theatre, the library, Palazzo Toaldi Capra, Palazzo Fogazzaro, Palazzo Boschetti and Palazzo Da Schio.
