Dad or Alive explores the conflict between the desire for parenthood and the fear of a hostile future—between the instinct to pass on a part of oneself and the ethical doubt of adding another life to a world in crisis. Is bringing a child into the world today an act of courage or recklessness?
The show weaves together stories, data, and confessions in a journey of words, music, and bodies that serve as screens sculpted by videomapping. Eco-anxiety, personal fulfillment, and economic precariousness intersect with the desire to have children, clashing with the fear of lacking time, resources, and energy, and the dread that the life one chooses to give is destined for a climate-driven agony.
With a dramaturgy that blends spoken text and live electronic music, the performance gives voice to those who wonder if becoming a parent is still a possible dream or an unsustainable burden. The relentless beat of the kick drum marks the pulse of those who do not sleep, while words and sounds oscillate between irony and unease, between dreaming and waking.
