This year’s creation for the Dance Well dancers is inspired by the themes of beauty, limit and possibility. Three key words investigated by choreographer Ian Yves Ancheta, who invites the dancers to create a moving painting in the space of a baroque church in Bassano. A painting inspired by the dynamics of the creative group, and its challenge to overcome a linguistic barrier: a work of negotiation, attention, of careful and active listening, that will eventually bring them to create a composition everyone agrees on.

After developing research around the gesture of hammering for several years, Aina Alegre asked Yannick Hugron, a friend and choreographic artist, to talk to her about his experience as a former performer of Basque popular dances. Alegre then talked to other people practising these dances and music, collecting fragments of stories: with this collection of memories, she invited Yannick Hugron to join her on stage to summon together, map and reinterpret the stories, gestures and movements gathered during these conversations.

It is said that seeing a time with equal digits in the clock is a sign of good luck. In double: double, a collection of screenshots from a smartphone display accompanies the unfolding of a body on stage: a body that is committed to chasing that strange sensation of synchrony. The encounter between movement and this digital collection of coincidences brings the artist to explore the concepts of punctuality, being on time, being right: what does it mean to be in the right place at the right time?

Some Choreographies stages a dialogue between the dancer Ramona Caia and a precious video collection of different styles of dance, edited and reworked. The choreography unfolds as a mimetic process, a multitude of fragments dug up from the history of dance and performance. The dancer embodies, transforms, connects and gives shape to the body portrayed in those images, while, in the second part, an original video by the artist Roberto Fassone shows a sequence of visual choreographies with no human traces and yet looking for a relationship with the body on stage.

Waltzing Alone is a polyphony of dances that spark, right before the eyes of the viewer, by contagion and projection, negotiation and accumulation: a collaborative work whose composition is constantly questioned and re-developed. Starting from a score created by Demers for a solo, each artist develops the choreography in a personal way, at the same time as the others. Every gesture, every movement seems to contribute to a constellation of dances, in which each maintains its own identity but does not ignore the other.
