"Sacripante, you don't have to understand everything in this world. In fact, listen to Lena, you can rest assured that no matter how much you learn, when it's time to leave here, the things you haven't understood at all will be more!"
A small Venetian village with a handful of souls, a woman who cares for everyone, a little girl who survives a great flood. Petrolio, the grandfather, a man of few words who knows how to get by, in his own way, even in the worst times. As Fumana grows up, she learns to grasp her grandfather's silences from his facial expressions and proudly senses that he wants to teach her the "honest art" of fishing. We can imagine Fumana's joy, as she has always accompanied her grandfather on his nocturnal fishing trips, exploring a world essentially made of water, nature, and knowledge accumulated over generations.
Fumana's destiny is different: to become a "strigossa," a "marker" or "healer." In Voltascirocco, there's already Lena, a woman who has dedicated her life to caring for others, in exchange for a few eggs, wine, or simple gratitude.
On stage, Mirko Artuso and Maria Roveran, with the complicity of Paolo Malaguti, will follow Fumana throughout her life. Spectators will find here (as often happens in Malaguti's novels) a tribute to traditions, to the resilience of those who have always struggled but kept their heads high. Conversely, there's a critique of the many changes brought by supposed progress. The protagonist and filter of every aspect of history is always Fumana, an extraordinary "strigossa" who is easily loved precisely for her rough edges.
