HORIZON KOINÉ Bolero is a reinterpretation of Maurice Ravel’s celebrated Bolero, choreographed by Masako Matsushita and embodied by Vittoria Caneva. The project is born from the concept of the Bolero as a universal dance: a living, shifting form capable of traversing cultures, eras, and artistic expressions.
The creation serves as a meeting point for traditions that merge into a language capable of transcending space and time. The performance captures the multiplicity of the Bolero, from its folk origins to its subsequent transformations, while keeping its rhythmic and hypnotic character intact. The repetitive structure and the crescendo of Ravel's composition guide the choreography, exploring the transition from traditional folk dance to the art of the stage through a score where reinterpreted movements and echoes coexist. This combination of choreographic elements allows for the exploration of new expressive territories, keeping the spirit of the Bolero alive by transforming it into a contemporary and universal language.
