Hair is one of the few parts of the human body that cannot be moved voluntarily and directly. In the history of dance, hair has always been a problem for choreographers, given that control is fundamental in dance. Creating a choreography for hair means venturing into a battle between chaos and order. Loose hair has been a symbol of freedom, emancipation, and lightheartedness. The aesthetic of liberated hair has accompanied both revolutionary choreographers, such as Isadora Duncan or Pina Bausch, and subcultures like headbanging in the metal scene or hair-whipping in the ballroom scene. In Hairy, the rich historical and social context that the movement of hair carries with it combines with the tensions of choreographing involuntary movement—controlling the uncontrollable. Together with Strimaitis's devotion to minimalism and formalism, this gives life to a multi-level choreographic and visual experience, marked by counterpoints not only in time and space but also in conceptual and historical narratives.
