Near Misses is a performative, sound, and installation work born from a series of rituals related both to ex-votos and to body-protecting equipment. Ceremonials linked to life and death radiate, detachable metal objects generate armor, and a personal altar hosts a composition dense with meaning on the ways of acquiring strength, faith, and hope. The work includes material collected during kinetic, sonic, and historical research on human anatomy and body image, as well as material from various religious ceremonies, images, vows, and protection rituals. Investigating social and personal meanings around the contemporary idea of faith, the need for freedom in vulnerability, in silence and in anger, and the acquisition of power through collectivity.
