The title is inspired by the phrase “Meet the Artist,” which usually refers to the moment when an artist is invited to engage with the audience to share their creative processes and research.
Here, however though not in person, we will meet an artist: William Forsythe, one of the most important choreographers in the history of dance. Through his poetic work, he has been able to reorient the practice of ballet, traditionally identified with the classical repertoire, as a dynamic art form of the 21st century.
Annika Pannitto, therefore, through the Meet the Choreographer project, drawing on the vast body of work produced by Forsythe, is proposing and directing a creative workshop for young artists, the results of which will ultimately be presented to the public.
At the heart of the project will be, above all, One Flat Thing, one of Forsythe’s most celebrated choreographies a complex and frenetic work that combines geometric rigor, extreme athleticism, and overwhelming theatrical tension.
